GoCollect is brand new, so we may not have begun archiving your favorite collectible yet. But if we have, you'll find it by visiting our home page. Click the name of your favorite collection to land into that collection's home screen. There's a lot going on in there, but for now you're most interested in the blue search bar on the left side of the screen.
Every collection is different in GoCollect. For instance, items in the comic books collection have issue numbers, characters, artists, publishers and more associated with them. On the other hand, items in the Patricia Breen Ornaments collection hold attributes like holiday, ornament names, collector keys, exclusive event associations and more. A collection's search bar will help you to find the items you're looking for quickly, without having to browse through page after page. Find an item you own and click to see the details of that item.
You'll see some tabs in the middle of the item screen. Click the My Collection tab. That form has been tailor made to allow you to archive the most important details about items in your personal collection. Every collection in the GoCollect system has a different configuration of Collection details. Fill in as many of those details as you'd like. By the way... if this is something you might be willing to trade someday, check the box stating so. For now, stay away from the Chirp This box. You'll learn more about how that works a little later.
GoCollect not only helps you keep track of what you have (My collection) and what you're willing to trade (My Tradelist), but it also helps you keep track of what you're collection is missing via your Wishlist. So let's get back to browsing and searching for items... From the blue navigation area at the top, click the text that states how many items have been archived in the collection you're browsing. That will land you at the search results landing page. Use the search bar to locate one or more items that you don't own yet, but would like to own and click into one. Remember those tabs in the middle of the item details page? Let's click the Wishlist tab this time. Here you can add in details about the item you'd like to own. If it's something you'd like to purchase, feel free to enter a Target Price. Using a target price will help you to quickly find other people that may have that item for sale in the future. GoCollect will automatically notify you when items come up for sale that match your wishlist!
Click the Home link at the top of your screen. You saw this page the first time you signed in. It's your control panel for alerts, notifications, collector communication and more. Now that you've added some items to your Collection, your Tradelist and your Wishlist there's some new information on your dashboard. Take notice to the headers on the left side of the page for links to your Collections, Tradelists and Wishlists. We'll come back to the Dashboard soon.
Let's look at one of your collections you've begun to assemble. If you collect more than one type of collectible (and c'mon.. who doesn't) you'll see links to all of your different collections here. Click a collection link under the My Collection header. That will land you inside one view of your own personal collection of that collectible. From this screen you can get a snapshot of all your collections, wishlists and tradelists. This screen is your hub for managing these items. Use the drop boxes at the top of the lists to bounce among collections you own as well as the type of view you'd like to see. This page also allows you to create printable sheets as well as downloadable spreadsheets of all your lists. Care to sidetrack for a moment? Jump back to your favorite collection's home page. In the blue search bar, drop the box at the top to display only items in your collection. Fun huh?
You're really getting your feet wet, but the fun is just about to begin. Get up from your seat, grab your favorite beverage and let what you've learned sink in for a few minutes. Now we're gonna get to the good stuff... It's time to connect with other collectors!
Let's get you away from that generic profile and let other people get to know you a little better. Click the Profile link at the top of any screen. This page is how everyone else sees you. Click the Update Profile link to get rid of that boring picture and tell everyone what you're into in a few sentences. Feel free to let it all out here or keep it simple. Now take another look at your Profile page. Looking a little better now I'm sure. But there's a lot of zero's underneath your picture. Let's address those next.
It's time to find some fellow collectors that you find interesting. When you find the profile page of someone interesting, click the link to Follow them. There's an amazing collective knowledge here on GoCollect. If you want to stay in the loop, you've got to figure out who to listen to. If you're not sure where to start, try revisiting the home page of your favorite collection. On the right side of that page is a list of the most recent Chirps users have made pertaining to that collection. Click into anyone's profile to start learning more about them. You can see what they've Chirped, who they're following, who's following them, what they collect and a whole lot more. Click the Follow link under their profile picture to keep track of what they have to say.
Now that you've followed a few other collectors, let's revisit your Dashboard. Remember, you can get back there by clicking the Home link at the top of your screen. In the middle of your Dashboard screen you'll now have a chronological collection of Chirps from the people you're following. Start talking! You've got a rough idea about what GoCollect is now. Take the leap and blurt out your first Chirp for all to see. There are little areas all over GoCollect that allow you to Chirp about things. You'll find a Chirp form right there in the middle of your Dashboard too. The GoCollect Chirp system is very simple, but holds some great and mysterious powers. Click the little Tips link under the Chirp form to get a better feel for how it all works.
There's still quite a bit more you can do here. The more involved you get, the more features you'll find. But we haven't really touched on some of the best parts of GoCollect... buying, selling and trading. Which leads to feedback scores, personal notifications, email preferences, wishlist list hits, private messaging and more. If you're ready to jump into more, then you've officially outgrown this Getting Started page. Look up in the navigation to the left to begin learning how to buy, sell and trade. Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. We hope you enjoy your stay here.
