Collection Management Tips

Our system allows you to manage an online representation of your own personal collections. There is no software to download and you can export your collection at any time via either spreadsheet or printable format. You'll find a set of tabs within every item in the archives that allow you to add that item to your personal collection, tradelist or wishlist. Below are a few tips for getting the most out of our collection management system.

Adding items to your Collection

All of the items in our database archives have an individual details page. On that page are a number of tabbed areas. One of those tabs is labeled My Collection. You can click that tab to add that individual item to your collection. The brief form will ask you a small handful of option questions like what condition the item is in, how much you paid for it and any general notes you'd like to attach. Then, depending on the specific collection that item is in, the form may also ask you specific details that may pertain only to that type of collectible that may be of interest for you to track.

My Collection vs. My Tradelist

Our system allows you to represent your physical collection in an online format. Within your physical collection you most likely have some items that you are willing to trade and some you would not want to part with. However, both types are still in your personal collection.

Any item in your collection can be marked as "willing to trade" and therefore added to your Tradelist. Therefore, all items in your Tradelist must also be in your Collection, but items in your Collection do not have to be in your Tradelist.

Why use a Tradelist?

GoCollect offers a unique trading platform that allows users to negotiate trades with one another. Your Tradelist is the tool another collector will use to propose a trade with you. By adding items to your Tradelist you are essentially communicating to other collectors that you are willing to trade them should an interesting offer come along. Learn more about trading »

Getting the Most from your Wishlist

Our wishlist feature can be a very powerful tool for the discerning collector. By maintaining an online representation of the items you are looking to acquire you are keeping yourself open to opportunities within the GoCollect system:

  1. The system will alter you when an item comes up for sale that matches an item your wishlist. You can even set target grading/condition guidelines coupled with maximum pricing guidelines to refine matches.
  2. Other collectors will be able to match their Tradelist against your Wishlist. If matches are found, you will have a better chance of finding the items you desire... and perhaps even trade for them. Learn more about trading »
